Agreed, Joe. Most of the FD was repealed in 1987, with the personal attack and editorial provisions repealed in 2000. Of course, the rise of the Internet happened simultaneously, and in between we got the TCA of 1996, which eliminated conflict of interest clauses. So the news (and Hollywood) is now driven by those who pay the most.
The demise of the Fairness Doctrine via Supreme Court ruling is the reason why news is the way it is today.
